New concert program!
José Carreras released a new CD „Mediterranean Passion“ (Sony)
das er so beschreibt: „Mediterranean Passion“ is a return to my musical mediterranean roots...these are songs from my homeland Catalonia that have always moved me when I hear them, and songs from Italy that always enthused me“.
„In these songs it ist he passion, the emotion, a feeling in my heart and soul that I attempt to express with my voice...“
José Carreras will perform some of these new selected songs at the
concert in Mönchengladbach – together with other beautiful melodies and a couple of duets with the great mexican Soprano Rebeca Olvera. She is member of the Zürich Opera. The famous duet „Duo del Africana“ will be for sure one of the great highlights of the evening!

In summer and in winter. I am sure that the people and we – Soprano Rebeca Olvera and myself – will spend a nice summer evening together with music which fits perfectly in this arena.“
Yes, I still have plans for the opera ...!
In an interview with the „Times“ Mr. Carreras was wrongly quoted that he will quit the opera stage. This is NOT the fact. „If the right offer comes I still can consider to go on stage again – and in fact I still have some plans for the future. But I love to give concerts around the world the same time! I consider myself a very fortunate person that I can do what I love most: singing beautiful melodies...“
I like to perform in Open Air arenas
„People ask me often what I like better: to perform in concerthalls or in Open Air. Maybe because with the „3 Tenors“ we performed in the biggest stadiums in the world. And four times on the occasion of the Football World Cup – in Rom, Paris, Los Angeles and Tokio! And of course I also did many solo-concerts in Open Air venues. One cannot
compare. It is a different feeling a different atmosphere between indoor and outdoor. Outdoor is always a little more of an adventure but I like it very much. It has a certain feeling of freedom...“
Im Mai 2009 erhielt José Carreras in London den bedeutenden „BRIT“ Award. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa mit der er die legendäre „West Side Story“ unter Leonard Bernstein aufnahm, hält die Laudatio, Placido Domingo und Camilla Countess of Cornwall überreichten den Preis
José Carreras erhielt kürzlich den prestigeträchtigen „ECHO“ Preis in Deutschland
Im Mai trat José Carreras in einem Galakonzert für seine Leukämiestiftung im Opernhaus Zürich auf – danach gab er zwei Konzerte in China. Weiters ein Konzert beim Hampton Court Palace Festival bei London.
Im Rahmen des Classic Open Air am Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin gibt José Carreras am 7.7.09 ein Konzert. Partnerin ist die Sopranistin Barbara Krieger. Danach gastiert der Welttenor in Open Air Konzerten in Zadar, Parma, Porto, Festival Gavroche, Schloß Pillnitz bei Dresden, Erfurt im Rahmen der Domfestspiele und Schwerin im Rahmen des Opernfestivals. Danach gastiert er in der Warsteiner Arena in Mönchengladbach.
Im Februar/März 2009 war José Carreras auf Konzerttour in Australien, Neuseeland und USA

Die „José Carreras Gala“ in der ARD (German TV) sahen 6 Millionen Zuseher und es wurden rund 5,8 Millionen Euro für die José Carreras Leukämiestiftung gespendet! 2009 findet die 15. Sendung am 17.12. statt.

Um 11 Millionen Euro wird bei Barcelona ein JOSE CARRERAS FORSCHUNGSZENTRUM errichtet! Die Baukosten trägt die Carreras-Stiftung. 40 Wissenschafter werden in diesem Campus forschen! Die laufenden Kosten trägt das Government von Katalonien. Carreras: „Das ist eine Sternstunde in meinem Kampf gegen die Leukämie!“
